Derwin Hawkins Murder
May 13, 2011 – Madison, WI
Murdered After a Marijuana Deal Turns Sour
Derwin Hawkins was found, struggling for breath, in the 1100 block of Gammon Lane after witnesses heard several shots ring out. Victor McKeavin has been ordered to stand trial on charges of first-degree intentional homicide and possessing a firearm as a felon for the shooting death.
Near Hawkins on the pavement was a gun that appeared not to have been fired and a waist holster. Police found two .45 caliber shell casings in his car. Glass from a car window was found in the street.
McKeavin's was driving his girlfriends Chevy Tahoe that night. The next morning he woke her and told her it had been broken into. She called Fitchburg police to report the break-in, but Madison police, who already had been watching the Tahoe and the apartment, responded.
