Explosian of a Boiler in North-Western Roundhouse Kills Three
Jan 24, 1898 – Madison, WI

The boiler of engine 249 exploded in the Chicago and Northwestern Railway company’s roundhouse a few blocks east of the passenger depot on Blount Street. Three men were instantly killed and others painfully injured.

The fatalities were:
Frank Beck - Foreman of the roundhouse. 1128 Jenifer St. (Forest Hill Cemetery)
Wesley Schelper/C. W. Shelper - Engineer - Baraboo (Walnut Hill Cemetery - Baraboo, WI)
Charles E. Young - Engineer - Baraboo
