Bowen's lived here 1853-1956 and then moved to 302 S. Mills St.

One of the oldest houses remaining in Madison, this two-story red brick Greek Revival style house was built for Dr. J. B. Bowen and his wife Susan. Dr. Bowen came to Madison in 1852 and became well known as a successful homeopathic physician. Soon after he constructed this house, he built a gracious sandstone gentlemanís farmhouse at 302 S. Mills (which is a designated Landmark).
